Week 3- Post 1

On regards to dealing with conflict, I tend to use the relationship-centered orientation. When conflict occurs in my relationship, I find myself approaching my partner to talk things through. I am assertive because I like to resolve things as quickly as possible. When I approach my partner I tell her how I feel and ask how she feels. Then, we look at our options to see how we can resolve the situation. What I feel is most important when solving conflict is be able to compromise and listen to what the other person is saying. Using this kind of orientation makes me feel satisfied most of the time. However, there are times where I sometimes confront my partner too soon after conflict arises. Because my partner may not be ready to talk, can make things worse. But overall, I feel using the relationship-centered orientation is the best approach to resolve conflict.

  1. Miss Leenie,
I also noticed that I’m someone who is relationship-centered after looking at all of the different orientations. After reading your post, I feel like I handle most of my relationships the same way. I feel like the relationship-centered orientation lets everyone involved in the conflict say whatever they need to say. Both parties are able to look out all the information and come to some kind of resolution. Like you said, it is really important to listen to what the other person is saying. No one is perfect, so we can’t handle all situations using the relation-centered orientation, but it is a good foundation to start with. Overall, I really enjoyed reading your post.

  2. Hey Miss Leenie! I tend to use relationship-centered once in a while because I am more of the other-centered orientation. But I believe that relationship-centered seems to be more effectively when it comes to solving conflicts. I handle some of my conflicts with this orientation because I want to get my opinion out there as well as listen to what the other party has to say about the situation. Compromise is the best way, but there are times when I just don’t want to deal with it so I tend to use more of the other-centered orientation and let the person do whatever the want. I have to admit that I need to gear myself towards this orientation more so I can have a more effective conflict resolution. Anyways nice posts this week and keep up the good work!
